We completed our spring trip to Belgium and the Netherlands in April and people had a wonderful time especially on the ship. Our weather started out lousy (much like late March/early April in Indiana!) and improved as we went along so that by the time we arrived in Amsterdam, we had great weather.
A significant aspect, however, was the incidence of Covid, likely the highly contagious Omicron variant, that affected a number of people on our trip, some needing to leave the ship early and others who needed to extend and remain in Amsterdam additional days, up to five total! Those affected had few symptoms and were surprised they were positive. Most had sore throats, coughs, and congestion. All had travel insurance.
One challenge was finding hotels in Amsterdam over Easter as that Friday and Saturday night everything was full. Our hotel, the NH Collection Barbizon Palace, made numerous calls trying to find space. Luckily our group operator, Kuoni Tumlare, found rooms from block space they had at at top-notch hotel near the Amsterdam Airport, the Steigenberger. Although a train ride form the city center, it had nice walking paths and excellent service. The health officials released people five days after start of symptoms so they were able to enjoy time in Amsterdam. Those who missed our time at Keukenhof were able to visit later and with better weather!
